I'm running for president!
(...no kidding)

Welcome to repealofgravity.com.

This is the official campaign website of Louis J. Cassorla, who is running for president of the United States of America.

The idea here is fairly simple. Basically, it boils down to this: Voting is a good thing. Voting for the conventional candidates (those presented by the political parties) may not be a good thing for you—and you may even find the prospect to be unpalatable. I am merely volunteering my name as an alternative. I do not seek a victory. Instead, I aim to help send a message.

I am a believer in the ideals of democracy. I am also a believer that our current political system does not uphold those ideals very well—not because it is a constitutionally flawed system, but rather because it has evolved (devolved?) into an unhealthy situation.

Here's how the math worked in 2004:

  • Just about 60% of eligible voters actually bothered to vote. That's a national embarrassment, and yet there are those who would have you believe that it's a fantastic turnout.
  • Of that 60%, G.W. Bush got just slightly over 50% of the vote, and he took it as a mandate from the people.
  • That means that Bush won by getting less than 1/3 of the votes that could have been cast.
  • Let me rephrase that: The number of people who did not vote for anyone (but could have) is MILLIONS more than the number of people who voted for the winner.
I happen to believe that the people who did not vote are, to a large degree, people who just couldn't stomach the idea of voting for either candidate. This is a very different idea from the message the politicians choose to extract from the statistics. The politicians believe that non-voters are perfectly content and simply have the utmost faith in their fellow Americans to make the right decision.

To that, I say, "Hogwash!"

*** The main site is fairly static and is very much "on message". The same is not true of the blog. As such, I will not subject the blog to the same sort of rigorous archiving as the main site. It will still be an honest reflection of who I am, how I think, and what I stand for, however.
